Over the last week many of you may have seen the holly mulching vehicle or more precisely, Robo Flayer, in operation on East Common.  The Commons Committee agreed this project in line with our Woodland Management Plan advised by The Forestry Commission, England. Last year we carried out similar mulching on West Common.

The removal of the holly re-growth and the general thinning out of carefully selected areas of the Commons improves the openness and will encourage a richer, more diverse ground flora.

Mulching is normally carried out in the early New Year so as not to disturb nesting birds between March and June/July.

Currently this project has been carried out following a long period of heavy rain and more recently during snow and icy conditions, this work is now complete.
